Edema-type Obesity

What is Edema-type Obesity?

It is a disorder of water-salt metabolism, mostly seen in women aged 20–50. It often shows periodic swelling and bloating, so it is also called “periodic edema.” It usually gets worse before menstruation, and the obesity symptoms keep changing.


How to Identify

  1. Swelling around the eyes and face in the morning; when making a fist, fingers feel swollen.
  2. Press fat areas such as legs or arms with a finger, the skin stays white and does not return immediately.
  3. Pinch the fat around the waist, if it feels soft, it is edema-type obesity.
  4. Skin often shows eczema, blisters, etc.

 


Causes of Edema

  1. Standing or sitting for long periods at work
  2. Too much salt intake
  3. Irregular lifestyle
  4. Taking medication


Foods that Reduce Edema

  • Seaweed
  • Konjac
  • Spinach
  • Yam
  • Kelp
  • Celery
  • Grapefruit
  • Papaya
  • Black coffee

 

Ways to Reduce Edema

  1. Take a hot bath
  2. Keep a low-salt diet
  3. Drink red bean and barley water
  4. Ensure enough sleep
  5. Drink enough water
  6. Yoga / Stretching exercise
